For individuals with severely elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels, or severe hypercholesterolemia, the most important intervention they can anticipate is that their physician will achieve the earliest possible detection of the condition, understanding that this will probably entail genetic testing of the patient and the patient\'s first-degree relatives.
