Barnes Healthcare Services Program Outcomes
The data from the Barnes study[1] show that COPD patients can be successfully treated in the home using an NIV system such as the Trilogy 100, without need for hospitalization or a sleep study or any titration sessions (thus representing further cost savings). In the 397 severely affected COPD patients treated with this NIV technology the result was an 87.7% reduction in hospital admissions for COPD exacerbation in the year following initiation of the therapy,[1] which led to an estimated savings of $8 million based on their previous cost-of-care in the year prior to being part of the QI program.[7]
