FIG. 6:  The National Commission on Sleep Disorders Research noted in 1993 that about 40 million Americans had some kind of sleep disorder.[2]  At that time, 15 million were thought to have sleep apnea, and the vast majority was undiagnosed. The cost to society was estimated at about 50 billion dollars per year.
