FIG. 12: A further difficulty with defining CSA is that no clinical or epidemiologic survey has been validated for identifying patients at risk for Op-CSA. All the associations reviewed in the preceding Figures come from small, largely retrospective studies. This is in marked contrast to OSA, for which there are robust data on risk factors such as obesity, presence of snoring, and neck size, as well as validated questionnaires such as the STOP-Bang (http://www.stopbang.ca/). We hope that more robust data for CSA will emerge in the near future if chronic opioid use continues to become increasingly prevalent.
