Patients on Chronic Opioids
FIG. 24: This Figure shows the design of a recent study of ASV therapy in patients with Op-CSA by Javaheri and colleagues.[18] The subjects were 20 patients on chronic opioids who were sent to the sleep center for evaluation for OSA; 5 (20%) had pure OSA, but the other 16 (80%) had OSA complicated by CSA. Of these 16, 25% responded to initial CPAP and 20% of the non-responders responded to CPAP after 4–8 weeks, but the remainder of the non-responders had persistent CSA despite long-term CPAP use. All these patients were then assigned to ASV therapy.
