BiPAP Therapy

FIG. 46:  In some patients with CSA, BiPAP ST may be an effective treatment,[21] but BiPAP without spontaneous/timed backup rate (BiPAP S) has been shown to worsen CSA, especially in patients who have periodic breathing.[39]  BiPAP in these cases may be contributing to hyperventilation, which might increase plant gain and increase or worsen ventilatory instability.
