FIG. 6: CSA without CSR, which is sometimes referred to as cluster breathing, shows regularly occurring CSAs intermixed with abruptly occurring hyperpneas. In these cases the cycles are shorter and the transitions between apneas and hyperpneas are very abrupt; however there is a pattern that can be seen with opioid use, for example, when the hypocapnic threshold for apnea is narrowed.[1]
