FIG. 47: Nowadays ASV therapy is more commonly used to treat TE-CSA. In head-to-head comparisons of ASV versus CPAP, ASV was shown to be more effective in eliminating CSA and more effective for a greater proportion of patients.[40-42] In a head-to-head comparison with BiPAP ST, ASV seemed to be superior in reducing the total AHI.[30] Any of the PAP modalities will lead to significant improvements in subjective sleepiness, as measured by the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). However there are, unfortunately, no predictors for who will respond preferentially to each PAP modality.
