Cessation of Respiration
FIG 5: In addition to the typical patterns described in the previous Figure, during the same night he also had periods of cessation of respiration, with cessation of breathing effort. The result, illustrated in this Figure, was a continuous increase and decrease in breathing effort and flow, representing a pattern of periodic breathing during sleep. Both kinds of breathing disturbances were associated with oxygen desaturation and arousals from sleep.
