FIG 2: This patient was a man born in 1931 who presented with a BMI of 26.7.  His symptoms included fatigue, daytime sleepiness, and frequent awakenings during the night.  His wife reported that he exhibited irregular snoring, but she did not notice sleep apneas.  His Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) result was 16 points.  He had a history of atrial fibrillation and a diagnosis of bowel infarction with short bowel syndrome in 1999.  In 2004 he had a brain infarction with memory deficits, and he had a thoracic vertebral body fracture in 2006.  He was treated with fentanyl (an opioid), aspirin and bisoprolol for his heart, and metoclopramide and omeprazole for his gastrointestinal disease.
