FIG. 43:  A recent series from the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota)[27] compared 46 cases of plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma with 972 cases of pure urothelial carcinoma.  After matching the cases for Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance score, age, and gender, they found almost no significant differences in outcome, due to local cancer control.  So if you achieve local cancer control, then patients with plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma may not do significantly worse than patients with conventional urothelial carcinoma.
