Pathology of muscle-invasive bladder cancer

FIG. 8:  The American Urological Association (AUA)/Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO) guideline for the diagnosis and treatment of NMI bladder cancer[3] also categorizes variant histology as a high-risk situation, with expert pathology recommended if any variant histology is suspected.  Repeat transurethral resection of the bladder (re-TURB) is recommended if no upfront cystectomy is done, but cystectomy should be considered upfront.
