Investigational Markers

FIG. 29:  There are additional biomarkers on the horizon.  One such marker is a Cxbladder™ Monitor, which has a different design from other markers. It is designed as a rule-test, so does not optimize both sensitivity and specificity but rather identifies patients with a very high negative predictive value who might not need cystoscopy.

Other investigational markers utilize methylation pathways, microRNA expression, microsatellite analysis, single nucleotide polymorphism analysis, and protein and peptide arrays.  The benefits of these markers are yet to be determined, and whether or not they will be superior to currently available markers is unknown.
