FIG. 49: There are 3 other series of early radical cystectomy that I will discuss in the next few Figures. The first study, from the University of Ulm, Germany,[67] compared 175 patients who underwent early radical cystectomy with 99 who had deferred radical cystectomy. Cancer-specific mortality was much better in those who had early radical cystectomy (Figure). Nevertheless the question remained, how many of these patients were probably overtreated, and whether those who had deferred radical cystectomy might have received the radical surgery too late.
