Low risk NMI: Death
FIG. 22: This Figure shows the CONSORT flow charts for the 699 primary GIpTa tumors first described in Figure 20.[22] Among these low-risk patients, high-grade NMI tumors developed in 33, of which 15 responded to BCG and resection. Four of those patients (~12%) died from metastatic bladder cancer. Another 14 patients progressed to muscle invasion, 5 of whom died of bladder cancer. Of the remaining 9 patients, 6 had radical cystectomy and 3 had radical radiotherapy; 8 of those 9 patients died of metastatic bladder cancer, and 1 patient remained disease-free.
Overall 17 of the original cohort of 699 primary Grade I pTa tumor patients died from bladder cancer, which represents a very small 2.4% mortality rate.
