Dietary carbohydrate intake and mortality: a prospective cohort study and meta-analysis

And that wasn't a one-off study. Here's another one: “Dietary carbohydrate intake and mortality: a prospective cohort study and meta-analysis” published in the Lancet, where they evaluated 432,000 individuals. Interestingly, what they found here was a U-shaped risk. Those with the lowest and highest carbohydrate intake had the highest risk of premature mortality – again, with a very small hazard ratio of 1.2, which I'll get to a bit later. Again, headlines were pretty clear: A low carb diet equals a higher risk of death and heart disease.
