LDL vs Cardiac Risk

Here is a recent study from 2024, by Dr. Shebani Sethi out of Stanford, where she used four months of ketogenic therapy to treat patients with serious mental illness. Serious mental illness is defined as severe depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or schizoaffective disorder. The subjects had serious mental illness and metabolic dysfunction. After four months of ketogenic therapy, LDL went up – on average – 21%. But the calculated cardiovascular risk score decreased by 7%. Again, we see the metabolic improvements overriding – in a way – the small increases in LDL cholesterol.
