Glandt: Welcome to our session on using the ketogenic diet as a treatment option for type II diabetes. I’m Dr. Mariela Glandt, an endocrinologist trained at Harvard and Columbia, with more than 20 years of experience in treating metabolic disease. I’ve treated over 4,000 patients using a low-carbohydrate, ketogenic diet. Today, I am the co-founder and CEO of OwnaHealth, a telemedicine platform focused on reversing diabetes and obesity, especially in underserved populations.

I am pleased to be joined by my colleague, Dr. Bret Scher. Bret, would you introduce yourself?

Scher: Thank you, Mariela. I’m Dr. Bret Scher, a cardiologist who for the past 20 years has focused on cardiometabolic disease. That led me to study the impact of nutrition, specifically ketogenic diets, on improving cardiometabolic health. I think this activity is important to help us reframe how we see type II diabetes and insulin resistance, opening up new treatment options—of which the ketogenic diet is certainly one. I’m glad to join you today.

Glandt: Thank you
