Diabetes Statistics for the United States

Weight is a major factor in T2DM.  More than 85% of people with T2DM are overweight or obese.[1] In adults with diabetes versus those with no diabetes, death from heart disease is about 2 to 4 times higher.  Diabetes kills more Americans every year than acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and breast cancer combined.  Persons diagnosed with diabetes at age 50 die approximately 6 years earlier than persons without diabetes.
