MVAC Chemotherapy Toxicity

FIG. 18:  Chemotherapy with MVAC, particularly traditional regimens, is associated with toxicity, including granulocytopenia, anemia, nausea and vomiting, stomatitis, renal effects, neuropathy, and fatigue, and deaths directly due to treatment with MVAC have been reported.

However there is less toxicity with newer forms of chemotherapy, including gemcitabine/cisplatin combinations and so-called “dose-dense” MVAC, which can be given for a shorter time with less toxicity than traditional regimens.  In addition, dose-dense MVAC has been shown to be more effective than traditional MVAC in metastatic disease.
