Something needs to change
FIG. 14: In light of the bladder cancer care considerations highlighted in the preceding Figures, I think something needs to change, and I am trying to put some energy towards that. In the UK we have worked with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE), which offers guidance for patient care pathways within the National Health Service (NHS). We have tried to work with stakeholder groups such as patient advocacy networks, including Fight Bladder Cancer (http://fightbladdercancer.co.uk/) and Action Bladder Cancer UK (http://actionbladdercanceruk.org/), which fulfills a role similar to that of the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network (BRAN; https://www.bcan.org/) in the United States. We also work with UK surgical and radiotherapy societies, our research societies, and our nurses. We also try to design clinical trials that will improve and re-focus attention on the disease.
