The Promise of ERBT
FIG. 18: The advantage of an en bloc resection of bladder tumors (ERBT) is removal of the tumor in one piece. This should result in more accurate staging and allow us to obtain a margin status. It could also result in greater patient safety, as a meta-analysis has shown (Figure),[21] with less bleeding and less perforation and more accurate resection. It has also been hypothesized that ERBT could result in potential oncologic benefits, with complete resection of the tumor and better prognostication leading therefore to better clinical decision-making.[22] Whether these data will translate into reality, however, remains to be proven from the oncologic and safety side.
