FIG. 48: The nested bladder cancer variant is also rare.[11] It is important because it is composed of cytologically bland tumor cells that have been shown to mimic urothelial hypoplasia in specimens harvested by TURB or in biopsies. Most cases that present are locally advanced.[31] If a nested variant is identified, meticulous staging is needed, and re-TURB and upfront cystectomy should be considered.[32]
